  • Question

  • Hello again, I have another question , namely: h ow is configuration lab manager if I have 3 proect collections in my tfs 2010? Is important if I have configured 3 build services on different machine or I use multiple TFS build services on one machine?

  • Hi there,

If you have 3 project collections, you need to bind the SCVMM host group and library share with each of the project collections, to configure lab management. You can do this by using the Team Foundation Administration Console -> Project Collections -> '<your_Project_Collection>' -> 'Lab Management' tab.

Regarding the build controllers, you can bind a build controller with only one Team Project Collection. And a build service on one machine can have only one build controller (and multiple build agents). Since you can bind a controller with one Project collection, you need to have build service on 3 different machines to bind them with 3 project collections.

Please let me know if you have any more qns.

  • Although we havent tested this scenario expliciltly, I believe it should work. Do this only for the build controllers and not on the VMs that are part of environment. I mean lab management uses build agent on the VMs to deploy apps, and here we do not support more than one build agent on a machine.

I believe your qn is whether you can have multiple build controllers on a single server to support multiple collections using this workaround? I think lab management will most likely work, but I cant give you a guarantee as this is not a supported scenario and we havent tested it explicitly.

    Thanks.

  • but if I use multiple TFS build services on one machine (this approach: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/jimlamb/archive/2010/04/13/configuring-multiple-tfs-build-services-on-one-machine.aspx) will Test Lab Manager work?
