Failed to launch visual studio 2017 RRS feed

• Question

• When ever open the VS 2017 it creches.

Unable to find method 'InitializeAsync/1' on Microsoft.Developer.IdentityService.AccountProvider.AadAccountProviderService for the following reason: System.Threading.Tasks.Task InitializeAsync(Microsoft.Developer.IdentityService.AccountProvider.AadConfiguration) parameters are not compatible with the request: This operation cannot be performed on a default instance of ImmutableArray<T>. Consider initializing the array, or checking the ImmutableArray<T>.IsDefault property.
How this can be solved?

• Hi Waheed,

Welcome to MSDN forum.

you could have a try with delete or rename the following folders:

• C:\users\user\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\VisualStudio\15.0
• C:\users\user\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\15.0

After this, try to launch visual studio 2017, if you still couldn’t start it, Launch visual studio installer to repair visual studio 2017.

Meanwhile, please make sure you already followed the installation tips as below:

1. Disable any anti-virus

2. Clean up the %temp% folder

3. Run the installer as administrator

If this issue persists, I need your help to gather the logs. Please run the command: devenv /log in the evaluated command prompt. And upload the file (%APPDATA%\Microsoft\VisualStudio\Version\ActivityLog.xml) to https://onedrive.live.com/ and share the link here.

Best regards,

Joyce

• Hi Waheed,

Thank you for your update.

I have checked the log file and find the following error:

unable to load MEF component DLL: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.ApacheCordovaTools.Definitions.15.0

unable to load MEF component DLL: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Windows.Design.Interaction

Extension will not be loaded because an extension with the same ID'Microsoft.Windows.DevelopmentKit.Desktop'

Extension will not be loaded because an extension with the same ID'Microsoft.WinJS'

Please open an administrative CMD window and navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\2017\Community\Common7\IDE and run the command: devenv /safemode, if it works and it looks like this issue caused by the extensions or you need to remove the installed extensions under Tools—Extensions and Updates.

If you couldn’t start vs2017 in safe mode, please refer to the thread: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/27434068/visual-studio-extension-conflict-when-removing-a-project which has the similar error with you, he got solution from here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/24134693/how-to-uninstall-the-microsoft-advertising-sdk-visual-studio-extension/24449757#24449757

• Hi Waheed,

Thank you for your update.

I recommend you could have a try with reinstalling vs2017 by creating a offline installation.

1. Download the Visual Studio setup executable file to a drive on your local machine.
2. Create a folder(VS2017) in the same location with Visual Studio setup executable file.
3. Please open an administrative CMD window and navigate to the location of Visual Studio setup executable file.
4. Run vs_enterprise.exe --layout C:\vs2017

Please refer to here: https://docs.microsoft.com/zh-cn/visualstudio/install/create-an-offline-installation-of-visual-studio#install-from-a-layout

• Hi Waheed,

Thank you for your update.

Do you get any error message when you install visual studio?

I need to check if there is any other factor on your pc to cause the issue, please collect the VS installation log. Use http://aka.ms/vscollect to gather the installation logs. After using it, you will find vslogs.zip under %temp% folder. Please upload the file to https://onedrive.live.com/ and share the link here.

Best regards,

Joyce

• Thanks,

I haven't got any error while installation.

VS installation Log file is placed at location (https://1drv.ms/u/s!AhMDsay0Dn1TpjmiEDcfEoOD_Wx7)

Now I have un-installed the VS 2017. If log file is required again I can install again VS 2017.

• Hi Waheed,

Thank you for your update.

Could you launch the other version of visual studio?
