[VB]Viewing & Editing Text RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am very new to VSIX & Visual Studio Extensions, so this may be the most basic question imaginable, but I guess that's why it's so important for me to ask. I need to (as most extensions probably do) be able to view & edit the text in the editor. I have found lots of stuff at:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/visualstudio/extensibility/inside-the-editor?view=vs-2017

But most of the stuff on that page just mentions IText(this) and IText(that) and several methods, but it doesn't seem like any of the properties of anything there actually return String(s) that I can look at, obviously making them not very helpful in letting my code decide what changes to make. I eventually managed to figure out how to create & use an ITextEdit, but there isn't much point in editing stuff when you don't know what you're editing. At the moment, I am doing most of my work from the handler for an ITextCaret.PositionChanged event. Some of the things I am currently trying to figure out how to do are get data such as the current text line, access the text in the current document, and move the caret. I'm sure these are basic things, but I am completely stuck right now. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
