  • Visual Studio .NET 2002 shipped with Visual Basic 7, Visual Studio .NET 2003 with Visual Basic 7.1

    The version of the Visual Basic language that ships with with Visual Studio 2005 is Visual Basic 8.

    If you are interested in what future versions of Visual Basic, there is some information here.

  • You dont have a VB 2005 as such there is VB 2005 Express which is a cut down version of full VB.net

    It also depends on the version of the .Net framework you are using i.e. 1.1 or 2.0

    Visual Strudio 2005 is aimed at version 2.0 and Visual Studio 2003 is aimed at 1.1

  • Hi,

    Currently Microsoft has dropped the .Net naming convention. So when you say VB .Net its either pertaining to VB .Net 2003 or 2002. VB 2005 is simply called VB 8. VB 2005 is an upgrade of VB.Net. There are a lot of changes in the language. VB 2005 is more VB6-like which I think is very appealing to VB6 programmers...

  • So is VB 2005 an upgrade to VB 6?

    Is VB 2005 also an upgrade to VB .net 2003, or will there be another upgrade to VB .net 2003 later?

  • Hi,

    Ok, here is the heirarchy:

    VB6 -> VB .Net 2002 -> VB .Net 2003 -> VB 2005 or VB 8

    with that chronology, we could say that VB8 or VB 2005 is the newest, thus upgrade to all VB.

  • Your chronology is very helpful.

    According to your chronology, VB 2005 should be VB 9 instead of VB 8 (???)

    Is VB 8 another official Microsoft's designation for VB 2005, or it is your own designation or is it the designation in the developer's community?

    Thanks.
