Unable to launch freshly installation Visual Studio Express 2013 for Web

Question
-
Just reinstalled VS Express 2013 for Web. There had been an earlier installation of it, but I was advised my "trial has expired," which I confess baffled me as I thought it's a free product. Am I mistaken in that belief?
At any rate, I had hoped that uninstalling/reinstalling might cure the problem. but no. "License: 30 day trial (for evaluation purposes only) This license has expired. ! Your trial has expired. Sign in to extend the trial or enter a product key to continue using this product."
After signing in: "Sorry, we ran into a problem ! Found <hyperlink>See our current service status</hyperlink>." Clicking said link sends me to a happy page: "Everything is looking good For details and history, check out the service blog here." (None of the entries in the log seem to have any bearing on my situation.)
Any insights? Solutions? Thanks in advance,
Mark

Mark/Damien-
Unfortunately you ran into an issue with the Visual Studio Online service and I apologize for that.
Please close your IDEand open it again, as we have made some changes on the server to resolve this issue.

I'm having the same issue, except with VS 2013 Professional, with my MSDN Action Pack account.
I run VS on a Windows 8.1 Virtual Machine, and the error is presenting on multiple Virtual Machines.

I ran into the same issue as Mark and reported it separately in another thread just a few minutes ago. Stopping and restarting the IDE did not resolve the issue for me. I've even restarted my computer since the post cited this as being fixed, and still have the issue.Tuesday, January 28, 2014 4:54 PM

Hi ShadowRaven, It looks the issue you described in the other thread is different from the one discussed here, so let's discuss it separately at http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/3019cb66-c845-4665-afe5-24b72e4bf103/unable-to-register-visual-studio-express-for-web-2013?forum=vssetup#3019cb66-c845-4665-afe5-24b72e4bf103
