Brand new laptop, installing VS12, Setup Error! RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I just got a new Samsung laptop with a fresh install of Windows 8. I wanted to install VS12 Express on it. I downloaded and extracted the iso file from Microsoft Dreamspark, as I am a highschool student. I'm getting an error during installation, any light on the issue would be appreciated. The two errors are:

-Microsoft Visual Studio Shell (Minimum) User cancelled installation   [I haven't touched it at all]

-Windows Software Development Kit for Windows Store Apps The system cannot find the file specified.

The setup process freezes when it's acquiring the VS12 shell, and takes me to this error screen. Any logs, dxdiag files, will be attached if requested.

    Thanks much!

  • Please provide complete install logs as follows:

Please collect your install logs with this:

After you run Collect.exe, you'll find vslogs.cab in your %temp% directory. Please upload vslogs.cab to a public site, like SkyDrive, and post the link here.

  • Hi Carpetfizz,

    Thanks for your post.

If you mean it is a new laptop. The issue sounds more related to a corrupt iso.

Could you please ask the iso provider to get a healthy hash number.

Then use this tool http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841290 to verify hash of the iso. The point of the exercise is to generate a hash value (or values) - MD5 and SHA1 - from the .iso file so that it/they can be checked against the known value(s) for that file. Any discrepancy would indicatethat the file was corrupted.

By the way, please also remember to gather installation logs for us.

  • Hello! I got this iso from Microsoft's Dreamspark website, so it seems as though it would be clean and legit. Any help on finding the hash of this on Dreamspark would be great. Here is the .log file of my install, it is in a PasteAll link:

    Thanks for any help. http://www.pasteall.org/40398
