Visual Studio 2015 Express trial license has expired and I am unable to register or use it anymore RRS feed

  • Question

  • I did not register VS 2015 Express because I did not know it is necessary for a free product. Now when i open it, a modal dialog open stating that 30 days license has expired. When I click on the "Check for an updated license" link, after signing in, it opens a web page on Internet Explorer that shows the page cannot be displayed. Then on VS another error window opens that says "Sorry, we ran into a problem" and on next line "SP324099: Could not complete the operation." I cannot open any menu of VS like file, tools etc. The only button that works is the Exit Visual Studio. I have tried to repair the VS but for no help. I have read other people comments on other posts that even uninstalling and installing again did not help too.

Please, if anyone ran into the same problem and managed to fix this then please help me out. After 2 days of efforts, now I am nearly disappointed and thinking that I can never be able to use it on my machine.

  • Hi Kamran Pervez,

Please open following link to create a new account and then use this new account to access.

If new account still has the same problem, please try to reset user data with command VSExpress.exe /resetuserdata.

  • Hi Kamran Pervez,

Please open following links with IE directly to check if IE doesn't trust these sites.

    https://login.microsoftonline.com
    https://login.live.com

If you can't open these sites with IE, please add these site to the trusted list. Open IE and click the "Tools" menu on the right-top. Select the "Internet options" and click the "Security" tab. Choose "Trusted sites" and click the "Sites" button. Then add these sites into the list.

If sites can be open in IE, please check the version of your IE. Click "Tools" menu and select "About Internet Explorer". If the version is under version 11, please update your IE to version 11.

Then open your Visual Studio 2015 to sign in again.

    Best Regards,
    Weiwei

  • Thanks for your reply. My IE version is 11 and it opens the above mentioned sites. The URL of the page that VS tries to open is "res://ieframe.dll/dnserrordiagoff.htm%20-#https://login.microsoftonline.com/login.srf". And it is again showing the "Page Cannot Be Displayed" text.

I am pretty much sure there may be some IE settings related issue.
