How do I get out of Trial hell? RRS feed

  • Question

  • A while ago, my boss of our small company subscribed to something, MSDN or Partner ActionPack to get us VS 2013 download.  I logged into that and downloaded a Visual Studio 2013.  Although the download page at that time didn't make it obvious, it was the Trial version.  I didn't know that until it expired.  Luckily, I was just experimenting and didn't have anything critical in there.

So later (maybe a year ago), I tried again.  I found a proper Microsoft link somewhere (unfortunately, I didn't apparently keep a record of where) and downloaded that.  It installed properly and was not a Trial version.  As I recall, I installed it and it prompted me for my Microsoft account and it took it and everything was fine.

Now, my 2 colleagues want to do the same thing.  Yesterday and today I've been working with one of them.  I THOUGHT I found the link I used before, but after downloading and installing and filling in the prompt, it is still a Trial.

How the heck can I figure out how my colleagues can get the same thing I have?  I know we have the MS Partner Action Pack and all 3 of us are listed as Members there.  Don't remember what else my boss might have subscribed to that included VS 2013.

    Any ideas anyone?

  • Hi mltiede,

    For your issue:

How the heck can I figure out how my colleagues can get the same thing I have?  I know we have the MS Partner Action Pack and all 3 of us are listed as Members there.

We found that you really have 3 Visual Studio Professional licenses under the Action Pack, refer to this link: https://mspartner.microsoft.com/en/us/pages/membership/core-benefits.aspx In the Plan and enable section.

I think you may need to associate your account, maybe you could try the following three possible methods to associate your account if you haven’t do them before, I’m not able to test it for you:

    1. Assign MSDN subscription access and privilege: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2966345?wa=wsignin1.0 See this section “For Microsoft Action Pack subscribers: Assign Technical Contact roles

    2. According to this link, you could manage your membership: https://mspartner.microsoft.com/en/us/pages/membership/my-membership.aspx

    a. Manage my account

    b. Download my Software

    c. Promote my business

    d. View my dashboard

    3. Use the Simplified Association Process tool: https://mspartner.microsoft.com/en/us/pages/membership/simplified-association-process.aspx

The Simplified Association Process tool provides a quick and efficient way to update your current Windows Live ID or connect it to your company’s Microsoft Partner Network profile.

At last, if the above possible solutions don’t help, please consult your issue on the Partner Support Community: http://partnersupport.microsoft.com/en-us

    Hope this information is helpful.

    Best Regards,

    Jiayi Li
