Cannot find OLEView tool

    Question

  • Hello,

I recently installed Visual Studio 2008 SP1 on Vista and was cannot find the OLEView tool. I was expecting it to be located in

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\Tools\Bin

However the Bin folder does not exist. I searched my system and cannot find the OLEView tool. Is there a particular download site where I can find the OLEView tool?

    Thanks,

    Kilgore

  • Hi Kilgore

Oleview.exe is included in Windows SDK, the location is typically at C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0\Bin.

If you still have problem, please let me know.

    Thanks.

  •  Hello Figo,

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, OLEView isn't installed in that directory either. My path was a little different. It was:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A\bin

In an attempt to install OLEView I've repaired my installation for Visual Studio 2008 SP1 but that didn't help.

The version of the Windows SDK as listed from Vista's Programs and Features (Vista's version of Add/Remove Programs) is:

"Microsoft Windows SDK for Visual Studio 2008 SP1 Express Tools for Win32"

Is OLEView part of another installation for Visual Studio 2008 SP1?

    Thanks.

  • You can try installing Microsoft Windows SDK for Windows Server 2008: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=F26B1AA4-741A-433A-9BE5-FA919850BDBF&displaylang=en.

Note: it is not only for Windows 2008, it is just named after the recent Windows version and it supports Windows Server 2003; Windows Server 2008; Windows Vista; Windows XP

    Thanks.
