VS 2017 ARM Remote Debugger for Surface RT RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am trying to install the Remote Tools for Visual Studio 2017 on a Surface RT updated to 8.1.   This link here (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/visualstudio/debugger/remote-debugging) says to following another link and to "Always download the version matching your device operating system (x86, x64, or ARM version)."  I following the link but the only options for VS 2017 Remote Tools is x64 & x86.  The only version of ARM Remote Tools I can find are for VS 2015 with no update - will this work with VS 2017?  Or will I need to stick with VS 2015?  And if I need to stick with VS 2015, will I need to downgrade to a non-update version to use the ARM Remote Tools?

    Thanks.

  • Hi Michael,

Thank you for posting in MSDN forum.

With the release of Surface 3, Microsoft switched the Surface line to the Intel x64 architecture, at the same time, there is no ARM Remote tools version for VS 2017.

Currently, you can only use VS 2015 for the ARM Remote Debugger, VS 2017 is not available for it.

But for this, I help you submit a feature request on UserVoice ,  please see:

    https://visualstudio.uservoice.com/forums/121579-visual-studio-ide/suggestions/19464493-please-provide-a-version-of-arm-remote-tools-for-v

You could vote it if necessary, Microsoft VS product team engineer will evaluate it seriously.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

    Best Regards,
