    Question

  • Hi,
I had try to restore a db in Windows 7 and I had got the following error:

The operating system returned the error '5(failed to retrieve text for this error. Reason: 15105)' while attempting 'RestoreContainer::ValidateTargetForCreation' on 'C:\.......\myfile.mdf'

  • Did you run your SSMS with run as administrator to overcome the current uac permissions ? Try to explicitly add the SQL service accounts on both the folders where backup file is located and the folder where new mdf and ldf files would be created as a result of this restore operation.

    Thanks, Leks

  • Error 5 usually means a security issue - ensure that the SQL Server service account has the permissions to work on that directory/file.
