SQL Server 2008 installation fails on Windows Vista SP 1. Is ist possible to swicth off the check of Windows Installer version? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

SQL Server 2008 can't be installaed on Windows Wista SP1.
    Reason: error message "
update does not apply to your system" by the Windows Installer update.
Installed version of Windows Installer is 4.5.6001.17012.
Probably, the version of Windows Installer shipped with SQL Server 2008 DVD is
    4.5.6001.22162.
Installation of SQL Server fails by upgrade of Windows Installer with the message
"update does not apply to your system".
All attempts to install Win-Installer update (also downloaded from MS-Site) brought nothing.
That's why the question: is it possible to switch off the Windows Installer update by the installation
    of SQL Server 2008 ?

  • No, you probably have a beta of Windows Installer 4.5 on your system.  You must remove it (via add/remove programs) and then install the version that SQL Server comes with to be able to proceed with setup.

  •  Hello there,
I have a Client with the same issue on a Vista machine.
Were you able to resolve your problem?

Is it even possible to remove the Windows Installer via Add/Remove Programs?
I did not think it was possible to ever "remove" Windows Installer.

    Thanks
