How to align the text in justify format In SQL server Reporting Services? Is there any code to do so?

  • Hi,

I suppose that with justify you mean "fit to entire line" format. This is not available in reporting services. There is only Left, Center and Right.

    Hi,

Thank you for your reply. Yes, of course, i knew there was no option to justify the text in SQL Server Reporting Services. But i am in need to apply justify format for my text in one of my reports. Hence i also ask "Is there any code to do so?".  If u came to know about this, kindly do reply me.

  • Hi,

I'm afraid that if you want to have this kind of functionality, you will need to write a custom control. Here is an example: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345265.aspx. The issue with custom controls is that it needs to be known by all the reportservers that will render your report.

  •

Unfortunately this feature didn't make the cut for SSRS 2008 . Your options are still in 3rd party solutions or custom controls.

    Regards.

  • I agree!

Oracle Reports has had  this feature for  about 10 years!

It's unnacceptable not to have a solution for this issue for such a long time, and not to have even a workaround.

    Very diappointing.

  • How can this be? This is outrageous. ALMOST 4 YEARS and Microsoft isn't able to implement something so simple? What are you guys doing? What a shame.

To everybody having the same problem : ditch SSRS and use Crystal Reports !!!

  • There is a solution in SSRS. Drag a text box onto the report and set its expression to the datafield. the datafield could be database or calculated field.

Just setting the normal LTR alignment for the textbox will display the text in a justified manner.

  • Setting Horizontal Alignment to "Left" did not work.
    Friday, January 14, 2011 4:32 PM
  • Setting TextAlign to "Default" did not work as well.

  • Not sure if this is still an issue, but adding a placeholder with html markup and in the text expression write something like ="<p align=""justify"">some text</p>" will do the job in SSRS 2008

  • Irma, I've tried this already. It doesn't seem to work.
    Wednesday, August 10, 2011 8:37 PM
  • I'm not able to have the Irma's hint working. the html is parsed and, for example, <b> is applied and bolds words.

My conclusiong is that the align="justify" is not supported (in Denali RC0 too)

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc645967.aspx

Strictly the msdn description above is correct, but not all the properties are honoured!

="<p style=""font-weight:bold;color:red;text-align:right""> That is a test for testing css tags </p>"

The above exprension works in an html placeholder, BUT WILL NEVER HONOUR a "text-align:justify"

  • In case people end up here looking for the "justify text" feature in SSRS: it is still not implemented.  If you'd like to get this feature, please vote on following MS Connect item: full justification in reporting services 2008 needed

MCITP SQL Server 2008 (DEV); MCTS SQL Server 2008 (BI, DEV & DBA)

I have applied the custom code from this blog and it is able to emulate the justified text on my reports with

    slight tweaking.
