  • I was assigned to develop an with the database in SQL Server 2005. Can Visual Studio Code or Visual Studio 2019 Community connect with SQL Server 2005?

  • With the tools in VS 2019 not, but from your .NET code you can access any SQL Server Version, even if 2005 is already deprecated.

  • There are tools in VS (not VS Code) that can help. Look at the Server Explorer and SQL Server Object Explorer tools.

    However there are many classes in .Net that will help very, very much more. You should learn about the database classes in .Net. The .Net experts use Entity Framework. It will take time to learn EF but after you learn it you will use it many times and it will save time. There are many articles and books that will help you.

    But the OP is using SQL Server version 2005 which is already out-of-Support and the SQL Tools in VS 2019 don't Support such an old Version.
