SQL Server Management Studio 2012 set up RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have Windows 7 with Windows Server 2008 R2 and I'm trying to install SQL Management Studio 2012 (SQLManagementStudio_x64_ENU.exe) in order to manage a remote database on a SQL Server 2012. Whenever I try to run the set up I get the message that my operating system does not meet minimum requirements because I need Servicepack 1, but I have in fact downloaded Service Pack 1 through Windows Update. I only need the tools, but it just won't set up?

  • Hello,

You need to apply service pack 1 for Windows 7, not for SQL Server 2008 R2.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hello,

You need to enable .Net Framework 3.5 too using Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Turn on/off features.

    Hope this helps.

  • This is exactly the file I have that won't install because apparently I lack very service pack that I have, in fact, installed

  • Turning on .NET 3.5 didn't help, unfortunately. (I'm using .NET 4.0 installed anyway), I have restarted the computer, I have re-installed Servicepack 1 for SQL Server 2008 R2... still the same problem

  • Yes, that was indeed the solution, I had finally figured that out myself, but thanks for the spot on diagnosis. I had to download it from Microsoft Downloads though, Windows Update kept telling me that there was nothing to update.
