Opening links from the extension popup in the active tab. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm creating an extension with a popup that has some shortcuts for navigation.

    If I have, for example, the contents of the popup being;

    <a href="bing.com">Click here to open bing</a>

This will load bing in a new page rather than the current tab that the popup is active over.

    How do I fix this?

    Thanks in advance :)

  • Hi EdgeDeveloper,

I try to make a several test with your sample extension.

    Below is the testing result.

After making tests, I think that this is the default behavior of the Edge to open the link in a new tab if the link is placed inside an extension.

Target=_self will also not work here like normal HTML page.

Your addListener handle also not able to correct this issue.

At present, I did not get any work around for this issue.

I will inform you, If I will find any useful information for this issue.

    Thanks for your understanding.

    Regards

    Deepak

  • Hey, thank you for trying.

Please see here; https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/c19288da-a969-4df7-9686-556aadfd0fc7/background-scripts-not-running-in-edge-extension?forum=WindowsIoT#c19288da-a969-4df7-9686-556aadfd0fc7 I've created a separate question.

For the entire extension (in its current state) please download that here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1d1P37okRLO4X1cIpY01O-ilVDqygyU5k/view

I've managed to fix the issue of linking. It's just background scripts now.
