  • Greetings Jannen!

By default SSDT uses a new SQL Server Code Name "Denali" technology called LocalDB (see http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlexpress/archive/2011/07/12/introducing-localdb-a-better-sql-express.aspx for more details) as the debug database for a SSDT project. This technology does not support FILESTREAMs in CTP 3, hence the error message you are seeing.

The debug database used by a SSDT project is configurable, so if you need FILESTREAM support you can specify a different database to use for the project (e.g., a database running on SQL Server Developer Edition running your dev machine). In CTP 3 you can do this with the following steps:

    1. In Solution Explorer right-click on the project -> Properties
    2. Click on the Debug tab in the Project Properties window
    3. Edit the Target Connection String to point to an alternate database that supports FILESTREAM
