local machine connecting to AdventureWorks RRS feed

  • Question

  • (Please excuse my ignorance because I'm just a student who's learning.)  I don't have a server, and I don't know how to configure one.  I can't find any server where non-Azure users can connect to the AdventureWorks database.  By downloading AdventureWorks to my PC, can it or its tables be connected or imported into Excel (via Power Query)?  If yes but not so simple, please explain.  Thanks.

  • The AdventureWorks database is useless without an SQL Server database to restore it on.

Installing an instance lf SQL Server Express is an exercise of googling for it, downloading it and then installing which is pretty straightforward as there is a wizard. And it's free. You also want SQL Server Management Studio so that you can run queries etc. Again this is a matter of googling, downloading and installing.
