Downgrading from SQL Server 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2008

  • I had SQL Server 2008 R2 installed on my laptop and then discovered that the hosting environment for my SSRS reports was SQL Server 2008.  Although after reading some articles that indicated compatability might not be an issue unless I used an R2 specific feature I chose to try the downgrade to avoid any questions of compatability in the future (and am currently regretting that decision).

I am able to create a report but when I chose Preview I get the following error (this same report runs on the SSRS 2008 host server with no issues):

"An error occurred during local report processing.  Method 'get_Lookups' in type 'Microsoft.ReportingServices.ReportProcessing.OnDemandReportObjectModel.ObjectModelImpl' from assembly 'Microsoft.ReportingServices.ProcessingCore, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91' does not have an implementation"

    I have tried the following:

    1) Deinstalled SQL Server 2008 R2, installed SQL Server error

    2) Then Deinstalled SQL Server 2008, deinstalled Visual Studio 2008, reinstalled SQL Server 2008...get error using the Business Intelligence Studio

    3) Renamed the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\Microsoft.ReportingServices.ProcessingCore.dll to something else, tried to execute the report from within the BI and it bombed with no error (this was done in an attempt to make sure I'd removed the file it was using).  I then did a SQL Server 2008 Repair installation to make sure it was actually putting those files back with the files from the installation DVD and it did indeed put a new C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\Microsoft.ReportingServices.ProcessingCore.dll in place....still got error

    4) Reinstalled Visual studio...still getting error

Help! (before I have to reimage my PC)

  • Hi,

Are the errors in the steps 2-4 the same with the error message you provided? Did you look into the system error log to get a consistent information about this error? If we have the logs, we can do further research.

  • Yes, the error is always the same.

I'm getting the error when I try to Preview an SSRS report that I've created through the BI (not on the server).  What logs would I be looking in?

It still would be nice to know why that error is occuring but......I have successfully gotten rid of the issue by deinstalling SQL Server 2008 along with the Visual Studio 2008 Shell (BI) and then (this is the key) physically removing the Visual Studio 2008 left over folder and contents: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0

Then reinstalled SQL Server 2008 with the BI, created a report through the BI and it ran fine in Preview mode.
