Access to Report Server Under Windows Workgroup RRS feed

  • Question

  • When accessing a report on the report server (from another computer), for the first time in a session, in a Windows Workgroup environment, a form always pops up asking for credentials. Is there a way to prevent this, or is that just the way it is with Workgroups?

For many Workgroup situations, setting up a user with the same user name and password on two computers allows file access etc to occur between them without providing credentials. This doesn't seem to be the case with the Report Server.

  • Hi Dick,

Based on my understanding, credential entry prompts when you access a report from another computer in workgroup environment.

In a workgroup, the computers are loosely coupled and user identity is validated locally rather than centrally. In Reporting Service, if local environment is a workgroup, when accessing a report from another computer, the current user is not supported to be authenticated automatically. The prompt authentication entry requires the user account is created on the local environment and has been granted the permission to run Reporting Service. Regarding the issue, there is a similar thread you can refer to: SSRS authentication in workgroup environment.

If you have any question, please feel free to ask.
