Identify client timeouts specifications RRS feed

  • Question

  • is there a way to determine the timeout specified by the client when opening a connection at sql server level.  Does those property get communicated to SQL server or is it handled entirely on the client side?

I am looking at both connection and execution timeout.

  • These are both client-side timeouts.  The server knows nothing about them.

  • Just to add to David's response.

There is no timeout setting in SQL Server.  SQL Server itself will never timeout or disconnect a connection (except for remote linked server connections).  SQL Server has no knowledge of how long the CLIENT will wait for a response.
