I'll list here the problems I know of with the forums now. Most of them appeared recently and broke original functionality. We never heard from forum's owners when that original functionality will come back and if it's even in the plans or not.
1. When viewing My Forums I do no longer see who and when replied last in that forum. This is a regression as this is how it worked before
2. When the thread is moved, it no longer shows the forum it came from. Again a regression since this is how it always worked before
3. When I reply in a thread, my post now shows as unread - few months ago it was not so.
4. When I press 'Unread' button I now only see threads I never read before. This can be turned into enhancement if we add back Threads read with new messages and have ability to have these two different views. Right now there is no automatic way to view threads with new messages
5. It is very hard to mark or propose answers of people with many points - the more points, the harder. As a result, I've been losing some answer marks. This is part of another bug when the thread would be marked without a history. Now the thread simply can not be marked, which is an improvement, but not a resolution.
6. Many people lost activities and points in the latest ordeal with 'Missing activity' bug. I would welcome the fresh recalculation of my points as I suspect of losing at least 20K due to various bugs.
7. MigrationUser problem. I've seen that 'MigrationUser' a couple of times
8. Wrong language problem - it seems to be almost fixed with the occasional 'Already voted' in the wrong language
--------------------
I will appreciate if forums owners will answer this thread of what we can expect in regards to resolving these problems. Also, if you know of more problems, you can add them here for completion. I listed the most obvious and relatively recent.

Wondering if we can get any reply from Forum's Owner? BTW, I could not find this thread in the forum's view (I had to switch to discussion type of threads to get to it) and I am also seeing 'Already voted' in Chinese right now.
BTW, today the problem #5 seems to be fixed - let's hope, this is for good.

Shouldn't there be a WIKI article which does this?
FWIW in a previous thread I had assumed there was but all that I could find was one which lists what is supposedly fixed in each change.
C.f.
where my search was
(BING search for
thread pages technet intitle:forums prefer:performance site:microsoft.com/wiki/
)So maybe there really is a Bugs list in there somewhere but that issue is just one which "coincidentally" never got added to it? <eg>

I've checked the WiKi page and seems like it was not updated for some time. Also, the year for updates have been dropped and it's not clear which year the updates refer to.
I don't think it's maintained properly by the people who are responsible for updates. Also, with each update new bugs are introduced - are they listed on these update pages also?

Yes. There should be a Wiki page called "Forums Known Issues" but we never made one. We have one for the Wiki though.. Does someone want to add the forums version? Naomi, which page are you referring to?

The first article listed by Robert. It listed forum releases but without a year (so it's hard to figure out when that release happened) and also it seems like that page was not updated. If someone can maintain this WiKi page it will be good and we can refer to it to check what has been fixed.
Perhaps we also need a page of known issues - you may start the article and I will post there.

BTW, the problem with marking and proposing seems to be fixed, but the opposite problem of unmarking and unproposing remains. I accidentally clicked today on 'Unpropose' button in my own message and I was lucky it took so long I've been able to Cancel.

Any chance we ever get a reply from the forum's owners with at least some estimates for the fixes? Say, the problem with 'Unread' messages showing only new threads and showing threads with my latest reply in italic is quite annoying. Because I rely on that 'Unread' filter. I really need a way to see 'Unread - never read before' and 'Unread - new messages since last read' filters implemented. The last filter should exclude threads where the newest reply is by the current forum's user (me)

BTW, rather than introducing more and more bugs (such as narrow MSDN layout), will we ever get a response about all the existing bugs mentioned in this thread?
Thanks in advance.

Okay. I made a page here with these bugs: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/17473.msdntechnet-forums-known-issues.aspx
Comments (mapped to your numbers in this thread)...
#1 - Added
#2 - Added. Known Issue they've bugged. I followed up this week, because this one is really annoying.
#3 - Need more info. See Wiki.
#4 - This is a feature request. You can add it to the Feature Requests page instead.
#5 - Added. It's a known issue they have bugged.
#6 - Nothing hard or proven with this one. For what was lost, it's minimal and nothing can be done. Unless you want to manually calculate how many points were lost by 10K+ users (in order to be fair to all). So we can add it to a resolved section because its "Won't Fixed".
#7 - MigrationUser problem... Added it. They have it bugged.
#8 - Added it. They have it bugged.
Thanks!

What do you mean they decided against it? Before that functionality got broken, the 'Unread' button would show new threads (never read before) and the threads which were read with new messages.
Then they introduced the first bug - every time I replied to a thread, my reply would make the thread Unread.
And then after that they introduced the next bug - the 'Unread' button would not show the threads with new replies which I already read.
Say, I used to keep up with T-SQL forum. During weekend I would read all the threads which I haven't yet read. Now I'm missing lots of threads which I already read but which have new messages as I have to manually go through each page and look for italic font.
That's why I suggest to turn this bug into a feature and let us have two views - Threads never read (current functionality) and threads already read with new messages. If they can exclude threads where my reply is last from these unread (and not make them in italic font), that would be great.
Is it that hard to implement? This was the original behavior of the forums before 2013 updates.

#3 - I think it's crystal clear. When I reply to a thread it now makes this thread 'Unread' and shows in italic. Before 2013 it worked differently - my own last replies would not make a thread 'Unread' (italic font). Why would I need to re-read the thread where I just replied?
#6 For me it is not minimal. By my rough estimate due to various bugs I lost about 25K points. I don't know if it's even possible to correctly re-calculate Points for every user - most likely it's impossible and what's lost is lost forever. But in this case why Mara at some point gave us an impression it was in the plans?
BTW, luckily they fixed problem of marking replies of users with many points. #5, but they didn't fix the opposite process (unmarking a reply from the user with many points). This still takes a long time, although seems to eventually work.

I also do it rarely, but yesterday it took long time to unpropose the answer by Vincent (?) in the thread about 'Verify me' where I marked your reply as the answer.
You may try an experiment - propose my answer and then try unproposing it.

I tried twice to unmark Uri's answer in this thread
and got 'Unexpected error' both times.

Richard,
Can you add a sticky thread to this forum with the Bug and Issues TechNet WiKi article link similar to what I did in 'Suggestions & Feedback' forum? This way we can also keep track of all issues in one place.
I also think that that TechNet article may need some dates indications in regards to when the bug was first found and if fixed, some date for the fix also.
Will you add the dates to that article, please?
Thanks in advance.

Don't know if these problems are known, but this morning I ran into 2 bugs
1) While editing one of my post, when I clicked "Submit", I got a message saying:
You cannot Insert more than 2 images per post
The point, is that there was no image at all in the post, .. and also I had to delete the post and re-write it. There was no way to submit the post
2) I was trying to post some HTML and CSS code in the Code Block and I noticed that after the post was submitted, some lines of the code were removed / missing.
I retried 3 times with the same results. Always the same lines from the code were removed.
I really took care to notice: before clicking "Submit", all the code is is present, after Submit, some lines are removed
Hopefully I am posting somewhere Someone will see it

Ok, I experimented and found that some particular CSS tags makes the line to disapears
Here an example:
Put this in the code box
.messageSidebar div .votinglabel
{
font-size:small;
width: 80px !important;
p o s i t i o n : r e la t i v e;
t o p:-10 p x;
text-align: left !important;
margin- l e f t : 2 p x ;
}.messageSidebar div .votinglabel { font-size:small; width: 80px !important; ; top:-10px; text-align: left !important; margin-left:2px; }
You can see that the line " p o s i t i o n : r e la t i v e; ;" is removed.
EDIT: actually I cannot post it in plain text neither ... Remove the space chars to try
Basicaly, .. writing p o s i t i o n : r e la t i v e; without the space is impossible to write in the forum.
And it is true for a certain number of CSS like string. (I have not an exact list, but the tags "top left right ... " are other example that dont always show
EDIT: Did some more experiment, Comparing what I submit and what I am getting back from the server, I can notice that the problem exists when I submit some text that could be interpreted as executable by the browser. When submitting some text that could be executable, sometime your engine will quote it or split it in different span, ... but sometime, it just remove it.
I think that text should never be removed, quoting, or splitting the text should be enough to insure that the text will never be ran by the browser
---------------------------------
Now the other problem, it seems to come random ... If I find a way to reproduce, I'll post it

I am agree with you. Because we saw that every time when we consult to others then some expert don't like the previous expert advice. So, I think that it is a universal truth.

Yes, I (and also Heslacher and yourself) have confirmed what you describe in the Sandbox forum. I captured the HTML before and after, and definitely thestring "" is stripped from the code block.
