Trouble using 32-bit odbc drivers with 64-bit SQL Server 2008 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Windows 2003 R2 64-bit, SQL Server 2008 64-bit, Progress DataDirect 32-bit 9.1e ODBC drivers

We have successfully created a DSN using the 32-bit ODBC driver with the 32-bit DSN manager.  When we do a test connect back to our Progress database, it says it was successful.  But when we try to create a linked server, we get the following error:

Cannon initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDASQL for linked server "DATAWH".  OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server, "DATAWH" returned message "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified". (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 7303)

This is our linked server setup:
Provider: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers
Product name: DATADIRECT 4.10 32-BIT Progress SQL v9.1e
    Data source: DATAWH
    Provider string: DSN=DATAWH;DB=warehouse;UID=sysprogress;PWD=sysprogress;HOST=hlsprog1;PORT=2907

This same setup worked fine on our 2005 SQL Server w/32-bit OS.  Any ideas what's wrong?  It's almost like the SQL Server can't see the 32-bit drivers.  Thanks very much!
