HOW can I verify my account? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been using the forums since Oct 3rd and have not received any confirmation email to my knowledge.  I cannot post links or images, and get the "body text cannot contain images or links" error when I try.  How can I get my account verified?

As I understood, you just continue posting new messages and soon you will be able to post images.

Yeah, to back up what road apple says, it is really easy for those of you who can post links and images to say "Oh that's easy enough to achieve."  I've been posting for a month now, asking questions and providing answers.  What does it take to not be convicted as a spammer out of hand?

But apparently if you complain about it enough and point out that you've been here a month, someone fixes it.  I can now post links and photos.

  • Perhaps it resolves automatically after a month. As it was said in another thread, the details about new restriction are intentionally not provided, so we may only guess how long does it take.

Nobody said it's easy enough to achieve. You're misquoting Derosnec misquoting me.

  • Any chance I could get my account verified also?

I'm trying to add images to better explain my question to the following thread:

Team Foundation Server - Administration> WIT Editor - How to add a Team field to a Work Item?

  • I remember that on my way to the gym I was thinking of giving you another idea, but then I just forgot about it. So, now, since I see your thread, I may suggest another alternative.

You may want to post your question in addition to asking in MSDN in this forum

www.universalthread.com You will need to become a member (basic membership is free). You then will be able to post threads and you can upload images as well. This forum has less participants, but there are a few quite knowledgeable folks in that forum. I've been using it since 1999 and I like it, in my opinion it's the best user interface for the forum possible.

Once you post there your question with an image, you also will be able to give that image link here.

Oops, in regards to the link - perhaps you will not be able to give a link if both images and links are not allowed for the new members.

  • I would suggest that this is a remarkably silly approach. I have a similar problem, I want to provide a visual explanation in order to clarify my post...and it will be my very first thread. This is not possible but I don't learn that until after I have completed my post. If you don't want to offer the ability to insert an image, don't make it appear as a command in the post window, allow me to upload and preview the image, then tell me after I try to post my lengthy explanation that it isn't possible until my account has been "verified".

At the risk of sounding cliché...FAIL.

  • I agree that if the account needs to be verified, these buttons should not be present to not confuse the user.

  • Can somebody please verify my account please? I have been online for a while now too, and I don't see any way for my account to be verified other than waiting.

  • This is, frankly, an asinine way to approach spam prevention. First, the vast majority of forum users are NOT spammers. In five years of the Expression Web forum, we have had perhaps five or six instances in total! Second, at least for our forum, the very people who need the help the most are those who are least likely to have the forum experience to be "verified" by the nebulous requirements that Forum Issues has prescribed. Third, for the great majority of assistance requests in the Web forum, those involving page display, we must have access to the page in situ, with all the markup, CSS, images, scripting, etc. available for us to analyze and determine the problem. This is NOT optional. Forbidding the posting of links negates the very purpose of the damned forum.

I personally feel that this reveals a marked, and shameful, laziness on the part of the forum developers or admins. Rather than implement one of the known effective methods of spam prevention, CAPTCHA/reCAPTCHA, email response double opt-in, etc., they have decided to simply assume that everyone who needs help in one of the forums is a spammer, a patently ridiculous assumption on the face of it, and implemented requirements which new users find impossible to meet, even if they knew what they were.

How about you guys at Forum Issues get off your lazy asses, and implement a workable spam prevention policy that doesn't automatically assume that every new user is a spammer, and that provides a reasonable, known path to verification, so that the very users for whom these forums are of the most need can use them in the way they are intended to be used.

    It's accurate, though...
