Re: SQL Server Express 2012 - Management Studio RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm very new to SQL Server Express 2012 - just downloaded it. After clicking on Mangement Studio I clicked help to get started but 'no content available'. Online help not an option for me at this moment - too much information. I Need a good book of some sort about Mangement Studio. Don't know what the Management Studio menu options mean or what they do. (a definition of buttons would be good). I also need to connect to a LocalDB on my Windows 7 PC. Any ideas to start me off.

  • Hi James,

In addition to the helpful link provided above, see this link for instructions on how to download SQL Server help content to your local machine:  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms166022.aspx.  The instructions on that page assumes that you selected Documentation Components during the installation of Express.  If you're not sure, click Start, All Programs, SQL Server 2012. From the SQL Server 2012 list, you should see Help & Community .  If you don't see that, the Documentation Components were not installed.  You can rerun the installation and just select Documentation Components.  This installs the Help Viewer that is required to display the product documentation (called Books Online).
