  • Hi navin_reddy,

From your description, the issue is that, while accessing a remote report server, there is a login dialog promptted. After typing 3 or 4 times correct username and password, nothing or 401 error is displayed in the Internet Explorer(IE) page. If I have misunderstood, please don't hesitate to let me know.

This issue is caused by the client's credential is not send to report server correctly. It may happen when the report server is configured to use Kerberos authentication, however, the Service Princip Name(SPN) is not registered correctly.
By default, the Kerberos authentication is enabled for a report server.

So, in this case, please register the SPN for the report server service account to fix the issue. Or, please force the report server to use NTLM authentication, we can do it in this way:

    1. Open the rsreportserver.config(By default, it can be found from C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10_50.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\ReportServer)
    2. Comment the <RSWindowsNegotiate/> under <AuthenticationTypes> element.
