Upgrading from 2016 to 2017 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Reporting Services is now a separate installation in SQL Server 2017. When running the SQL Server 2017 installer and selecting to upgrade our current 2016 installation (with RS) to 2017 will it automatically upgrade RS to 2017? Or do you need to do that separately? Documentation for MS isn't clear on this subject.

Based on my test, it will NOT automatically upgrade RS to 2017 if you upgrade your current 2016 installation(with RS) to 2017. Below is the screenshot, when you upgrade your SQL Server 2016(with RS) to SQL Server 2017, “Upgrading SQL Server will uninstall Reporting Services” will show up.

If you have any other questions, please let me know.
