2016 - Database Tuning Advisor issue IConvertible RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm running into an issue in 2016 trying to open the Database Engine Tuning advisor.

It is kicking out the following error:

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
    ------------------------------

The argument type 'server type = Sql, server name = DEV, timeout = 30, database = SLOW_MOVERS, protocol = NotSpecified, workstation = , integrated security = True' cannot be converted into parameter type 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Common.SqlConnectionInfo'. (mscorlib)

    ------------------------------
    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

    Object must implement IConvertible. (mscorlib)

    ------------------------------

I tried the workaround suggested in the following link: https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/3134548

The workaround did not work for me.

  • I had the error, when tried to run Database Tuning Advisor from SSMS.

As a workaround I was able to start stand-alone Database Tuning Advisor and then specify SQL file as workload.
