UCMA endpoint automatic discovery RRS feed

  • Question

  • When calling EndEstablish on a user endpoint with UserEndpointSettings created without the Frontend FQDN and port, I am experiencing an OperationFailureException with the following error message:

Microsoft.Rtc.Signaling.OperationFailureException:Automatic discovery of $(RTC_PRODUCTGENERICNAME_STR) for the given sip user uri failed.

(Yes, the RTC_PRODUCTGENERICNAME_STR is really a part of the message, the string is inside Microsoft.Rtc.Collaboration.dll)

How exactly does UCMA try to discover the Lync server when it is only given a user's SIP URI? The application has been configured using "automatic provisioning" (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg437227.asp).

Is it as described here - http://blog.insideocs.com/2008/08/19/dns-records-and-office-communicator-automatic-client-sign-in/ - , or is there more to it?

  • In your case, you should setup SRV in your DNS server, and point the SIP TCP and SIP TLS to your default front end pool.

By the way, your Lync Client cannot work in Automaticc Configuration Mode until your setup the SRV.
