Future of Notification Services RRS feed

  • Arron is right. Microsoft has quietly announced via the readme file of the July CTP of SQL Server 2008, that SSNS will not be included in the product. The long range plan is to have Reporting Services provide the functionality of SSNS. Unfortunately SSRS in SQL Server 2008 is not capable of doing that yet. There is too much of  gap between SSNS and SSRS for it to meet the needs of many SSNS instances.

Typically, Microsoft gives us ample warning to migrate off of a deprecated technology, warning users 2-3 product revisions ahead of time. Unfortunately, this was not the case this time. I do not know the reasons for this departure from the norm.

As a result, my clients have less trust in my recommendations since I didn't see it coming, and less trust in Microsoft overall. Sad

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.....
