SQL Server 2008 Mirroring Errors. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I try to do mirror sql server 2008 for my project server 2010,so it has error message like that "alter failed for database 'DatabaseName' (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo)"

An exception occurred while executing a transact-SQL statement or bath.(Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo)

Neither the partner nor the witness server instance for database "databasename" is available. Reissue the command when at least one of the instances becomes available.(Microsoft SQL Server, Error:1431).

    Please help me ...!

    Thanks and best regard

  • Hi,

Can you log in to the witness or the mirror server from the principal? Are you sure that the mirroring endpoints are created and started? Is there any port filtering on your network? it may prevent you to use some ports, eg 5022 which is the default port for mirroring.

    I hope it helps.

  • Can you please run "SELECT * FROM SYS.Database_Mirroring" on all three machines (Principal, Mirror and Witness) and send the output?

  • Are you configuring mirror on databases resides on same server? if answer is yes then you should configure endpoints under different ports for principal and mirror servers

also please check the account under end points configured does it have enough permissions on all servers? also SQL service account has got required permissions .

  • I have only two machines(Principal mirror and witness) only.

    The output of mirror servers

    database ID   Other fields (all)

    1 to 36 NULL

    Output for Witness Servers

    Database_ID    other fields(all)

    1 to 11 NULL

  • Hi,

can you post the result of this query?

    SELECT * FROM sys.database_mirroring_endpoints

Are you sure that you followed these steps for mirroring configuration?

  • Hi,

Maybe it is a networking error from OS and the problem is outside of SQL. Could you please check the SQL ERRORLOG on mirror whether it contain the error like below:
    Error: 1474, Severity: 16, State: 1.
Database mirroring connection error 2 'DNS lookup failed with error: '11001(No such
    host is known.)'.' for 'TCP://'.

If yes, the resolution is to add entry for principal FQDN on mirror host file.

    Hope this helps.

  • All fields null on my query looks very much like a configuration problem... No matter how screwed up a connection is there should be a mirroring_partner_name, a mirroring_guid and a mirroring_state filled in the sys.database_mirroring view for all databases that have mirroring enabled. You should try setting up mirroring only with Principal and Mirror, without using a witness. I would be interested to see what error this brings up.

  • Can you telnet on port 5022 from principal to mirror and other way round?

also can you please check windows error log / SQL error logs on all principal, mirror and witness for any errors?

Can you please post output of below query from principal?

    db_name(database_ID) DBName
    from sys.database_mirroring
    Where db_name(database_ID) = <DBNAME> ----- here your dbname

  • You need to break the mirroring by using SET PARTNER OFF; and then setup the mirroring as per your document for Project server.

  • Hi Tola,

Please configure you database engine services with POWER NETWORK USER a/c as SQL 28 support for domain network a/c only , this error comes due endpoint doesn't listen properly with configuring local system or admin a/c.
