Failure to Install SQL Server 2005 on XP Computer with Service Pack 3 RRS feed

  • I have tried multiple times to Install Business Contact Manager (Office Small Business 2007). Each time the installation fails because it can not complete installation of SQL Servier 2005. Here's the log with the failed component in BOLD:

    The critical problem seems to be MSXML 6 Service Pack 2 (KB973686)
    Some advice is to remove this, but it seems that there was some sort of fault in installation and I can neither repair nor remove it - even using Run:\control appwiz.cpl I've also tried installing the patches that make the pprogram compatible with SP3. No luck.

    I've uninstalled Outlook 2007, and also removed and reinstalled the rest of the SQL components.

    (1) How do I remove MSXML 6 Service Pack 2 (KB973686) when normal procedures will not allow me to remove it?

    (2) MSXML 6 Service Pack 2 (KB973686) was originally installed in my initial attempts to install Business Contact Manager. How do I manage to install this program without repeating this mess.
