Can not Load excel worksheets RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am trying to load an excel file in my excel source editor but when I try to load the excel sheets it throws an error. Everything was working fine before, I am not sure why it's not working now.

    The error:

    TITLE: Microsoft Visual Studio
    ------------------------------

Could not retrieve the table information for the connection manager 'Excel Connection Manager'.
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

    ------------------------------
    BUTTONS:

    OK
    ------------------------------

    Thanks,

    Minhal

  • Hi Minhal,

Please provide the steps to reproduce and software versions used.

Also try to see what indeed changed.

    Hi Arthur,

I upgraded the VS and SSDT to the latest version available, after which I am unable to load any excel files.

    Thanks,

    Minhal

  • When you opened the SSIS project (I assume you have one) in the newer version of VS what happened next?

What are the versions of what you used to have vs now?

Yes I can open my SSIS packages and even run those packages. But when I am trying to create a new package and try to use excel source it would not load the excel file.

The versions I am using right now:

    Visual Studio Professional 2017 15.9.16

Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools for Visual Studio 2017 (SSDT) 15.9.16

  • Hi minhalraffat,

Please ensure you install correct OLE DB Providers and Drivers for Microsoft Office files. If you have 32-bit version of Office, then please download 32-bit drivers, else download 64-bit drivers.

Please refer to Could not retrieve the table information for the connection manager Excel Connection Manager and Import data from Excel or export data to Excel with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).

    Regards,

    Zoe

  • Hi Minhal,

I recently answered a similar question.

Check it out: Excel Source stopped working in SSIS

P.S. It seems that it started to happen with the latest ACE 12.0 update v.14.0.7015.1000
