SQL 2005 Enterprise x64 install Fails

    Question

  • The install seems to fail when it gets to installing the tools.  SQL server services seem to be installed and running.  I can connect to the data base from another sql manager and see the databases, that they are running.

The log file does not indicate much. Here it is.

LMG-RPTDB : There was an unexpected failure during the setup wizard. You may review the setup logs and/or click the help button for more information.

SQL Server Setup failed. For more information, review the Setup log file in %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Summary.txt.

Answers

  • Problem is resolved.  The tools on the DVD are for 32 bit SQL.  The full install was x64 bit.  I found the 32 bit tools and updated SQL.  All is working properly now.

  • Please send the setup log, like the message says: "review the Setup log file in %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Summary.txt"
