Windows Server 2012 with sql native client RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have an old VB6 legacy program that needs to run on the new win server 2012 that was migrated from the server 2005.

This program used to work on the 2003 server with accessing the sql 2005 (on another 2003 server) for data.

Having installed the same native client, the vb6 program seems to have connection issue during testing on 2012.

Can vb6 program makes call from win server 2012 to sql 2005?  Or do I need another version of the sql native client for the installation or could it be a different issue?  Or we have to migrate to use the sql 2014 instead at the same same.

  • Thanks.  I just got it figured out.  Need to install the sql native client 11/12 on the server 2012 and also change the connection string to include: "DBConnect Provider="SQLNCLI11" for the vb6 code to connect to the database (sql 2005).

    Hi MangoAngie,

Could you please post the detail error message/informtion to us while you try to use VB6 program connect to SQL Server 2005 under Windows 2012 OS? It will benefit for us to troubleshoot this issue.

Please take a look at the following article regarding troubleshoot Connectivity Issue with SQL Server Express 2005: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sql_protocols/archive/2006/03/23/558651.aspx
