Establish sql server session after force service

    Question

  • Establish sql server session after force service

I have sql server A (primary) and server B (mirror). The mode is high-performance without witness. After server A crashed, we did force service and promoted B as a primary. Several hours later, Server A was online. We want to failback to original status that is A is still a primary and B is still a mirror. Can you please let me know what the procedures are?

    Thanks,

  • Hi Bing,

The mode is high-performance without witness. So the failover is manually.

To initiate a manual failover, you must initiate manual failover by performing the following steps on theprincipal server:
     1. Connect to the principal server instance and, in the Object Explorer pane, click the server name to expand the server tree.
     2. Expand Databases and then select the database to be mirrored.
     3. Right-click the database, and then click Properties. This opens the Database Properties dialog box.
     4. In the Select a page pane, click Mirroring.
     5. Click Failover

For more detailed step-by-steps, please refer to SQL Server Mirroring Manual Failover: http://www.sqlserver-training.com/how-to-perform-sql-server-mirroring-manual-failover/-.
