Error at Data Flow Task [Excel Destination [6804]]: Columns......cannot convert between unicode and non-unicode string data types. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have tried making the columns dt_str and dt_wstr in the derived column editor but does not fix the error. I am trying to copy data from a table (ole DB Source) to an excel spreadsheet (Destination).  Changing the datatypes does not seem to make a difference. MSSQL 2008 R2.

  • Excel is not Unicode enabled application, so you just use the non-unicode

  • Excel file loading requires conversion instead of derived columns, See below link:

  • I have tried using both derived column and data conversion and neither will work. Using the data conversion transform I get the error:
Error at Data Flow Task [Excel Destination [790]]: Columns ".........." cannot converty between unicode and non-unbicode string data types.

  • Hey make sure your data type is string(DT_STR) in data conversion. it should work.

  • Hi Carlje,

Add Data Conversion transformations to convert string columns from non-Unicode (DT_STR) to Unicode (DT_WSTR) strings.

    Details about it, please see:
