SQL2005 SP2 problem - (KB921896)could not be installed. Error code 1603 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have brought this over here from the SCE 2007 forum where I originally started, as this appears to be an SQL and/or a Reporting Server issue at this stage

    POST 2

    Ok,

So I have rebuilt the SCE 2007 Server from the ground up.

Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition R2 with SP2

Added the IIS and .Net components

    Added .NET Framework 2.0

    Added .NET Framework 3.0

Ran Microsoft update and installed all available updates

Install the "Reporting Services"only from the SQL 2005 CD

Ran Microsoft Update it downloaded SQL2005 SP2, it said it failed to install....

rebooted the server and ran MS Update again, it is no longer showing SP2 as an available download...

This was the event log error

The log file is 11.1 Mb, so no copy/paste of that

So, I tried to push on with the SCE 2007 install and I get this

when I am quite sure it is configured, as per this

    POST 3

I had these appearing once every 60 seconds in the event log for 20 mins, but now they have stopped. I have no idea why, both servers were available the entire time.

Can anyone see something I can do differently during the installation process, I am happy to start from scratch again, but fail to see anything I have done wrong.

I guess I shall re-post this over in the SQL forums, as it seem to be more related to that product at this stage
