Credentials not valid for SQL Server Service - SQL Server 2008 Command line install?? RRS feed

  • Question

  • hello,

I am using following command to install SQL Server 2008 - Express edition from my application's msi. Since this will be an unattended install, i have used NT Authority\Network Service for all account types. This installation will be done on personal computer -Windows 7 and the user will be the administrator of the machine. 2 questions here:

    /QS /ACTION=Install /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS /FEATURES=SQL,Tools /ERRORREPORTING=0 /INSTANCENAME="SQLEXPRESS" /SECURITYMODE=SQL /SAPWD="sqlpass_2011" /SQLSVCACCOUNT= "NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE" /ADDCURRENTUSERASSQLADMIN=true /SQLSVCSTARTUPTYPE=Automatic /INDICATEPROGRESS=true

    1. Even though I have specified NT Authority\Network Service  for /SQLSVCACCOUNT in command line, its still failing woth error of invalid credentails?

    2. Since the installation will be done by user (who will not be an IT person), what windows account should I use while installing SQL Server i.e. Network service or domain user or built in administrators? So that installation would successful?

     Pelase advice. Thanks!

  • Hello,

    Please try the following changes:

    /SQLSVCStartUpType="automatic"  (double quotes)

Put every TRUE between double quotes also.

    Hope this helps.
