Hey l need to do a straight forward data base refresh, basically taking my production environment database and mounting it on test environment. This is just a TFS database. The question is can someone just give me a run down of this process,
step by step will do, also what are the potential pitfalls of doing this operation?
The easiest method to create an identical database in a different environment is probably backup/restore. I'll assume you already know how to backup and restore databases so I won't bother detailing that. One issue with this method is login/user
mapping for SQL authenticated logins may get of-of-sync after the restore. You can use ALTER USER...WITH LOGIN after the restore to correct.
Note that databases might contain configuration data so a restore will include data config data from the source environment. I can't speak to TFS.
