SSRS Mobile Reports External access RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are currently developing mobile reports to be used as a dashboard for our external customers.  The only available way i see to visualize a report within a web app is to use an iframe.  If the external user logs into the app how then will authentication be handled against the reporting server so that the iframe can access and display the mobile report?

    Thanks,

  • Hi B.Ross,

According to your description, you would like to configure SSRS mobile report for external access, right?

Based on my research, to achieve this, you need to use Web Portal to view reports over an internet or extranet connection. Steps include:

    1. Install Reporting Services on an Internet-facing Web server using the files-only installation mode.
    2. Create and deploy a custom security extension to support forms authentication or a single-sign on technology.
    3. Configure Report Manager for minimal permissions. The Browser role and System User role are sufficient for viewing reports.
    4. To point Report Manager to a different report server instance that runs on a separate computer, you must configure the Report Manager URL and then modify the <ReportServerVirtualDirectory> and <ReportServerUrl> settings in the RSReportServer.config file to point Report Manager to the report server instance.
    5. On the report server that you are connecting to, turn off features that you will not use.

You could refer to Planning for Extranet or Internet Deployment for detailed information.
