Active Directory Integrated Authentication with O365 Excel Service RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have an Excel report in stored SharePoint Online.  The report contains a connection to a SQL Azure database.  The connection currently uses SQL Server authentication (the credentials are held in the SharePoint Secure Store).  I can refresh the connection successfully.

    I want to change the connection to use Active Directory Integrated Authentication.  I have set-up Active Directory authentication for my SQL Azure database and have tested that I can log-in using Active Directory Password Authentication using SQL Server Management Studio.

    I have modified the connection in Excel as follows:

    1. Changed the Excel Services Authentication Settings option to "Use the authenticated user's account".
    2. Changed the Connection String to add the following option: Authentication=Active Directory Integrated;

    When I view the report in Excel Online, I get an error message when I try to refresh the connection.

    Is Active Directory Integrated Authentication supported with O365 Excel Services?  If so, how should it be configured?
