Problem in reading cell comments from a excel sheet using SSIS RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have created an ssis package, am using Script task to  read all the cell values and comments.

In server MS Excel is not installed,  so we use regsvr32 to register excel.dll ( also tried with Microsoft.Office.Tools.Excel.dll ), while doing the registration we got error as

"Registration not done, enrty point not found"

Sice the registration is not done we where unable to create the excel object in our script task.

Can anybody give as any clue, all helps are welcome.

    Thanks in advance

  • The error means it is not a COM dll, so cannot be registered. Not sure why you are trying to register it, does MS not supply PIA's for Office? They should be what you "link" to in the Script Task.

If you need to use Excel, even through automation, then you should install (and license) Excel on the machine. Excel is not redistributable, and trying to do a manual install would seem like a very bad idea.

  • Hi,

    Thanks for your response...

We do have license version of Excel, and our requirement is ,we are  not suppose to install Office in the server. and we have written a SSIS Package which reads the Excel file and inserts into target table.

now what we are facing is, we need to read the cell comments. for that we need the Excel object.[Microsoft Excel 11 object library]

and this we will get only if we install Excel....

    Please suggest any other alternative/solution.

    Thanks in Advance
