Filter All dimension members based on Factory while browsing RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

A cube contains data for All factories. There are 12 dimensions each contain factory specfic members.

Now the requirement is as below:

    • As a standard the cube should open for the users factory only.
    • When the user needs to see other factories data there should be an easy way to select the affiliate data from other affiliates.

What are the best way of doing so?

    Note:We have some constraint also:

    • Cannot split the Cubes for each factory.
    • There are 20 Factories and dimension security for hidding members are also not feasible.

Please suggest some options that can be done to achieve the requiremnt.

    Thanks, Tanmoy Santra

  • Hello,

In order to do this you should try the ALTER CUBE statement with UPDATE DIMENSION and DEFAULT_MEMBER options in combination with username function.

    ALTER CUBE Statement (MDX)
         Updating the Default Dimension Member
This clause updates the default member of a cube and is used in the MDX calculation script to define a default member. The default member can be specified for the database dimension, a cube dimension, or for a user's login. The default member can also be changed during a session.
A valid string that provides the name of a dimension.
A valid MDX expression that returns a single member.
The specified MDX expression can be static or dynamic.
    UserName (MDX)

    These links might also help:
