Data provider is missing in VS Express 2012 for Web RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello all,

I can't create connection to database in VS Express 2012. There is no SQL Compact data provider:

But in VS Express 2012 for Windows Desktop I have that provider:

What goes wrong? I've try to reinstall Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Tools for SQL Server Compact 4.0 SP1 ENU and again it doesn't work.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks a lot,
    Sergey

  • Nope.

From my point of view it is vise versa. I've tried to look inside SSCEVSTools-ENU.msi and check which registry keys it should write:

    • x32:
        HKLM\Software\Microsoft\VWDExpress\11.0
        HKLM\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\11.0
    • x64:
        HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\VWDExpress\11.0
        HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\VisualStudio\11.0

So that is mean that Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Tools for SQL Server Compact 4.0 SP1 sould be installed for Visual Studio or VS Express for Web and NOT for VS Express for Desktop!

And in my case for whatever reason it is exactly other way around.

I've check my registry also. All seems to be fine.

UPDATE: I've solved the issue by reinstalling both products: VS Express for Web and VS Express for Desktop.
