Cannot create an instance of OLE DB provider

  • Hi!

I need to create a linked server to another SQL Server instance (both SQL 2008).  I need to use SQL authentication to the remote instance.  In my development environment, both instances are on the same box, but I need to develop my stored procedures so they'll work in the production environment where there will be two servers.  So I've been trying the following, and multiple variants:

    EXEC master.dbo.sp_addlinkedserver @server = N'MyLinkedServer', @provider=N'SQLNCLI', @datasrc=N'ServerName\InstanceName', @srvproduct=''

    EXEC master.dbo.sp_addlinkedsrvlogin @rmtsrvname = N'MyLinkedServer', @locallogin = NULL , @useself = N'False', @rmtuser = N'MyLogin', @rmtpassword = N'MyPassword'

    I get the following error:

Cannot create an instance of OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI10" for linked server "MyLinkedServer".  (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 7302)

SQLNCLI10 is in my list of providers.

    What am I missing???

    Thank you!
