top 5 columns of 10 columns in a chart RRS feed

  • Question

  • using ssrs 2005.

My data source is XML over the web.

I have 10 columns that have 1 of two values (Pass or Fail)  and trying build a bar chart graph reporting the top 5 (as far as number of failures) with their failure counts.

Not even sure who to approach this.. my first inclination if the source were a sql view would be to reshape the view.

I'm just trying to figure out what to feed the chart control.. but two issues.. I only want to report the top 5 and I want them to show up in order severity.

    Thanks.

  • Hi JCNET,

From your scenario, you would like to show top 5 columns for your chart and show them in order. I suggest you can use sort and filter on the chart to complete the task. Please take the following steps and check if it works for you.

Step one: Set sort on the chart

    - Right click on the chart and select Properties
    - Select Data tab
    - Select Category Group in “Category  groups:” pane
    - Click Edit button
    - Select Sorting tab
    - Type in the Expression field to the value you want to order by
    - Click Ok to apply these settings

Step two: Set filter on the chart

    - Right click on the chart and select Properties
    - Select Filters tab.
    - Type in the Expression field to the value you want to filter by.
    - Set Operator to Top N
    - Set Value to “=5”.
    - Press Ok to apply the changes.

If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

    Thanks,
    Eileen
