Server 2012 R2: Cannot Install .Net Framework 4.7.2 or 4.7.1 or any Windows Updates for .Net Framework RRS feed

  • Question

  • OS: Windows Server 2012 R2

    This has been driving me up a wall for over a year now - basically I can't install .NET Framework 4.7, nor any Windows updates for .NET Framework.

    The updates that consistently fail with error code 800F0831 are as follows:

    When running both the .NET Framework 4.7.1 and 4.7.2 offline installers, I get HRESULT 0x800f0831

    Can someone please save my growing bald spot?

  • Hi ahhllexx,

    According to your description, it seems that CBS store is corrupted. Please have a try with the following solutions:

    #1. Reset Windows Update components;

    #2. Use the DISM tool to fix Windows Update errors;

    #3. Refer to: Error 0x800f0831 when you install an update to first install missing packages.

    Hope everything goes well.

  • I've followed the 'Reset Windows Update Components Guide' ( and received some error messages when when running some of the commands in step 6 to 'Reregister the BITS files and the Windows Update files'.

    The DISM tool says that it repaired the Windows store corruption and sfc/scannow says that no integrity violations are found.

    Log messages like this:

    I've looked in the CBS log and the only thing I've been able to find is related to KB40339972020-10-08 12:29:15, Info                  CBS    Store corruption, manifest missing for package: Package_3_for_KB4033997~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~

    I search the Windows Update Catalog for 4033997 and nothing comes up:

    Any other ideas?
