VS2015 update 3 won't install RRS feed

  • Question

  • I can get to the stage where VS2015.3,exe is downloaded but when I run it all I get is a small black window saying that update 2 is already installed (this comes up from the blue (i) icon).  There is no line about update 3 to select.   What do I have do to get update 3 to install please ?  Thank you.

I tried to attach a screenshot of the window but was told I could not as my account is not verified.  What do I have to do to have it verified please ?   It seems odd that I get emails from Microsoft if my account isn't verified.

  • Hi CaravelleMike,

    Welcome to the MSDN forum.

    >> What do I have do to get update 3 to install please ?

Please go to Control Panel ->Programs and Features -> Microsoft Visual Studio 2015 -> Right-click it and then Change  -> Modify  ->the VS installer windows will display the option "Update 3" and select it  -> Update

I found a similar issue which looks like your description(the VS installer windows behavior), please refer to the thread, the workaround is the same to the above method.

Meanwhile, I found some others meet this similar issue that reported to here: https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/visualstudio/2016/06/27/visual-studio-2015-update-3-and-net-core-1-0-available-now/, and the developers thought if a user had previously tried to install using the /layout command and then manually try to install Visual Studio 2015 Update download, the UI doesn’t tell them they aren’t getting the latest because they are locked to what is in the layout.

So If the above method doesn’t work , you could install using the Visual Studio 2015 Community/Enterprise/Professional with Update 3 download Instead of using the Visual studio 2015 Update 3.

You need to ask for a requirement in the following thread to verify your account:

    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/a0fb057f-74d7-428c-9af0-bcf0c23299f1/verify-your-account-35?forum=reportabug

If the above still doesn't help, I need you installation log file to troubleshoot this issue, Please use http://aka.ms/vscollect to gather the installation logs. After using it, you will find vslogs.zip under %temp% folder. Please upload the file to https://onedrive.live.com/ and share the link here.

    Best regards,

    Sara

  • Thank you very much, Sara.

Your Control Panel Panel method worked perfectly, though the update took a strangely long time to complete.

I have posted a message about verification as you suggested and am awaiting a response.
