Excel file save as PDF format RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Hi Friends,

    I am using a Silverlight Enabled Web Service in my silverlight applicaiton. By using my web service i am trying to read excel file from a source directory and manipulate it and then save as a pdf file in a destination directory.

    I had different problems like COM permission problem, File access problem etc. I have sorted out these issues by the help of the informaiton avaible in the following link

    http://www.bloing.net/2011/01/how-to-make-iis7-play-nice-with-office-interop/ (Thank Malte)

    Now i have the following error message

    "COM Exception was caught : Exception from HRESULT: 0x800A03EC "

    while excecuting the code below

    XlFixedFormatType paramExportFormat = XlFixedFormatType.xlTypePDF;
                    XlFixedFormatQuality paramExportQuality =
                        XlFixedFormatQuality.xlQualityStandard;
                    bool paramOpenAfterPublish = false;
                    bool paramIncludeDocProps = true;
                    bool paramIgnorePrintAreas = true;
                    object paramFromPage = Type.Missing;
                    object paramToPage = Type.Missing;

                    if (workbooks != null)
                        workbooks.ExportAsFixedFormat(paramExportFormat,
                            userFilePath, paramExportQuality,
                            paramIncludeDocProps, paramIgnorePrintAreas, paramFromPage,
                            paramToPage, paramOpenAfterPublish,
                            paramMissing);

    This code is working well while i use the web service directly from the Visual Studio (without hosting the service ie. http://localhost:5031/ISDBService.svc)

    Looking for a solution.

  • Hi,

    First, it's not a Silverlight issue, please try to find more help from the Office forum.

    Second, I guess it's a permission issue, did your server account has the permission to read or write to your server, try to grant the WRITE permission for the IIS_IUSRS on the folder which you need to export.

    Or you can try this:

    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/convert-data-between-excel-and-pdf-HA001214234.aspx
